Cheap Hotels In New York City

Maria asks…Cheap hotels in or around new york city?I'm looking to travel august 7 through the 9 2010 and am having quite a bit of difficulty finding a reasonable to me anyways hotel i would say around a 100/night. i'm not familiar with new york so i don't know where the seedy parts are and where the park ave parts are but i need a safe hotel and just a bed to sleep in i don't care about the cable or what not.
