Cheap Hotels In San Francisco

Linda asks…Cheap hotels in the San Francisco area?I am going on a trip with two teachers and my friend for a retreat a few hours away from San Francisco. We are going to stay in San Francisco for a few days however, and we were wondering if there are any cheap hotels that are still pretty nice close to an area that we can do stuff. We have never been there, so are there any things we should check out?
